Teodora Georgieva: IGB increases gas supply from Azerbaijan to Central Europe

The Interconnector Greece-Bulgaria (IGB), together with the Floating Storage Regasification Unit (FSRU) located in Alexandroupolis, forms a "critical infrastructure" for the Vertical Gas Corridor project, which spans Greece, Bulgaria, Romania and Hungary, and increases the gas supply from Azerbaijan to Central Europe through the Trans-Adriatic Gas Pipeline (TAP), said ICGB Executive Officer Teodora Georgieva, Report informs, citing the Bulgarian press.

According to her, the IGB Interconnector, which ensures the transportation of Azerbaijani natural gas to Greece and from there to Bulgaria, played an important role in providing over one-third of Bulgaria's gas demand.

“This pipeline was of great importance in transporting Azerbaijani gas via TAP and liquefied natural gas (LNG) from Revitusa port. Based on the assessment, it is estimated that Bulgaria will receive 10 LNG tankers per year after the commissioning of the FSRU (Floating Storage Regasification Unit) at the end of this year - early next year,” Georgieva said.
