SOCAR's STAR refinery accounts for over 28% of Türkiye's oil product exports in H1 2024

Türkiye imported 15,817,937.14 tons of oil in the first six months of 2024, with SOCAR-owned STAR Refinery accounting for 34.3% of the total imports. According to data from the Energy Market Regulatory Authority of Türkiye (EPDC), this represents a 10.2% increase compared to the same period last year.

The lion's share of Türkiye's oil imports, 65.7% or 10,387,273.22 tons, was claimed by Turkiye Petrol Rafinerileri AS (TUPRAS), marking a 20.3% growth. In contrast, STAR Refinery imported 5,430,663.92 tons of oil, experiencing a 5% decline.

The refinery exported 2,297,247.77 tons of oil products, a remarkable 26.2% increase, contributing 28.28% to Türkiye's total oil product exports.

Diesel fuel dominated STAR Refinery's export portfolio, with 1,458,906.67 tons shipped in the first half of 2024. Aviation fuel exports stood at 116,674.97 tons, while other oil products accounted for 721,666.13 tons.

Commissioned on October 19, 2018, STAR Refinery boasts an annual processing capacity of 13 million tons. The state-of-the-art facility is designed to refine various crude oil grades, including Azeri Light, Kirkuk, and Urals. SOCAR has invested approximately $7 billion in the construction and development of the refinery.
