Azerbaijan is implementing the green energy transition at national, regional, and global scales, accompanied by purposeful reforms, Energy Minister Parviz Shahbazov said at the Baku Climate Action Week, Report informs.

According to Shahbazov, the first phase, which includes strengthening the grid that will increase the share of renewable energy in Azerbaijan's total energy production to 33% by 2027, creating green energy zones, decarbonization of oil and gas operations, energy efficiency, and electromobility, is already on the way to realization:

"With the commissioning of the first foreign investment-based solar power plant with a capacity of 230 megawatts, solar electricity production has surged more than nine times in January-August of this year. By the end of this year, in accordance with the signed documents, it is planned to continue measures for the construction project of two solar power plants with a total capacity of 340 megawatts and to announce the results of the first auction for a 100-megawatt station. Nearly two gigawatts of eight solar and wind power plants, as well as 32 small hydroelectric power stations with a capacity of 270 megawatts in liberated territories, allow us to reduce emissions by up to 2.9 million tons annually," the minister emphasized.
