Polish Orlen doubles gas production in Norway

The Polish energy concern Orlen more than doubled gas production in Norway in 2022, to 3.15 billion cubic meters, Report informs referring to the company’s message.

“The Orlen Group showed a more than twofold increase in natural gas production from Norwegian fields in 2022. Production amounted to 3.15 billion cubic meters, thereby showing a 100% increase compared to 2021, when it was 1.42 billion cubic meters,” the company noted.

The total natural gas production by the Orlen group in Poland and abroad reached 7.7 billion cubic meters in 2022. “This volume is almost half of the demand for this type of fuel in the country last year,” the report says.

In the future, Orlen plans to further increase gas production, “which by 2030 may reach the level of 12 billion cubic meters.” “In the field of foreign activities, our priority is the Norwegian continental shelf… We also constantly invest in the exploration and production of gas in Poland, where we discover new deposits of this energy carrier, which allows us to keep production in the country at a stable and high level,” said Daniel Obaitek, head of the company.

On the Norwegian continental shelf, Orlen currently owns 98 concessions and produces gas from 17 fields. There, Poland expects to increase production to 6 billion cubic meters by 2030. Production on its own territory in 2022 in Poland amounted to 3.43 billion cubic meters. The Polish company also searches for and produces gas in Lithuania, Canada and Pakistan.
