The modernization of the Azerbaijan Thermal Power Station of Azerenergy OJSC is planned to be carried out within the next two years, Deputy Minister of Energy, Elnur Soltanov, said at the event on “Green transformation in Azerbaijan: Sustainable Development Goals,” Report informs.
He said that modernization will affect the sufficient reduction of greenhouse gases:
"Serious steps are being taken in energy production. Replacing inefficient stations with more efficient ones is an example of this. Azerbaijan's largest hydropower plant is in Mingachevir, and 95% of the energy is obtained from natural gas. Mingachevir HPP has a capacity of 2,400 megawatts. It was one of the most inefficient stations from the time of the USSR. The station's modernization aims to save several hundred million cubic meters of natural gas.
