Kazakhstan receives permission to transport oil to Germany through Transneft

The Kazakh operator KazTransOil will supply 300,000 tons of oil to Germany in the first quarter of 2023 through Transneft's oil pipeline systems. The corresponding permission was issued by the Russian Ministry of Energy, Report informs, citing the press service of KazTransOil.

“KazTransOil JSC received confirmation from the Ministry of Energy of the Russian Federation for the transportation in the first quarter of 2023 of 300,000 tons of Kazakh oil through the system of main oil pipelines of Transneft PJSC in the direction of the Adamova Zastava oil delivery point for further delivery to Germany,” the company message says.

The company added that the supply of 300,000 tons of oil is in the schedule for the transit of oil from the CIS member states through the territory of Russia.

The German authorities announced that in 2023 they would import crude from Kazakhstan via the Druzhba oil pipeline. In turn, the Minister of Energy of Kazakhstan Bolat Akchulakov reported that Kazakhstan plans to supply 1.5 million tons to Germany in 2023, in the future the volume of supplies could increase to 7 million tons. In total, according to Kommersant, Kazakhstan can supply Germany with no more than 3-7 million tons instead of 19-20 million that Russia supplied annually.

On December 29, Kazakhstan's Kazmunaigas applied for the transit of 1.2 million tons of oil in 2023 through Russia. The company explained that oil from Kazakhstan to Germany would be delivered to an oil refinery in the city of Schwedt. Until September, it was controlled by Rosneft, after which it was transferred under the control of the Federal Network Agency of Germany. The refinery's capacity is 11.6 million tons of oil products per year.
