Kazakhstan, Azerbaijan, Uzbekistan join forces to create new model of energy co-op

Kazakhstan, Azerbaijan and Uzbekistan are joining forces to create a new model of regional energy cooperation, expanding ties not only in traditional but also in green energy, Sungat Yessimkhanov, Kazakh deputy energy minister, said at the 11th Southern Gas Corridor Advisory Council Ministerial Meeting and 3rd Green Energy Advisory Council Ministerial Meeting.

According to Report, he said Kazakhstan is active in achieving environmental sustainability, including projects aimed at utilizing associated gas.

"Kazakhstan is actively expanding its energy export routes, including those along the Caspian Sea. The government is taking concrete steps to develop oil and gas infrastructure and diversify transportation routes. An agreement has been reached with Azerbaijan on transporting Kazakh oil from Baku to the port of Supsa. Under this agreement, a volume of 1.5 million tons per year has already been committed. The Green Energy Corridor initiative also goes beyond traditional gas supply—it includes the development of low-carbon solutions, such as hydrogen technologies and the reduction of the carbon footprint associated with gas processing.

Today, Kazakhstan, Azerbaijan, and Uzbekistan are joining forces to build a new model of regional energy cooperation. A recently signed strategic partnership agreement in the field of green energy production and transmission opens up unique opportunities for the development of sustainable energy systems. Kazakhstan reaffirms its willingness to explore joint projects aimed at developing infrastructure for the production and transportation of green hydrogen. We are open to dialogue on expanding our energy cooperation and strengthening the Southern Gas Corridor as a platform for sustainable and low-carbon energy development," he added.
