Iraq, Turkmenistan reach agreement on gas imports

Iraq and Turkmenistan have reached an agreement on the supply of gas needed to run Iraqi power plants, Report informs referring to TASS citing the Ministry of Oil of the Arab Republic.

“The Iraqi government seeks to expand the prospects for cooperation in the gas sector with friendly countries, including Turkmenistan. At the moment, we are preparing a memorandum of cooperation, which will be signed before the end of this year,” Shafaq News reported.

“This agreement is an important step towards expanding the horizons of Iraq’s cooperation with gas-producing countries,” the Iraqi Oil Ministry said.

Gas supplies from Turkmenistan are necessary to maintain the operation of Iraqi power plants, which now operate on fuel from neighboring Iran.
