Initial results for hydrogen transport via TAP obtained

TAP AG, the operator of the Trans-Adriatic Gas Pipeline (TAP), has obtained initial results from material tests for the offshore section of the pipeline to study hydrogen transportation possibilities, the company said in response to Report's inquiry.

"After researching the creation of necessary testing equipment to explore hydrogen transportation possibilities via TAP, we are currently conducting tests on pipeline materials. As planned in the third quarter, we obtained the first results for material samples of offshore pipelines. These results are currently being evaluated within the TAP framework," the company stated.

The operator also noted that in parallel, the second phase of testing material samples for offshore pipelines has begun, with results expected by the end of 2024.

"After this, TAP will assess additional testing requirements for 2025," TAP AG stated.

In an earlier interview with Report, TAP AG's Managing Director Luca Schieppati stated that TAP's goal is to develop capabilities for transporting hydrogen initially mixed with natural gas.

The supply of Azerbaijani gas through TAP began on December 31, 2020.
