Following the outbreak of the Russia-Ukraine war and Europe's decision to reduce its dependence on Russian gas, Azerbaijan has emerged as a key alternative gas source for the continent, Professor Laszlo Vasa, Senior Advisor at the Hungarian Institute of International Relations and Trade, told Report in Budapest.
According to the professor, cooperation between Azerbaijan and Hungary has been rapidly expanding in recent years and covers all areas: "Restoring and expanding direct flights between our countries is an important step that unites people and increases mutual understanding."
The expert emphasized that Azerbaijan today plays an important role in the gas supply of Central Europe:
"Especially the transmission of Azerbaijani electricity to Central Europe through the cable planned undersea is of revolutionary importance. The scope of the project is not limited to the initial participating countries - Uzbekistan and Kazakhstan are also interested in joining this system."
Vasa added that Hungarian companies are actively involved in various sectors of the Azerbaijani economy:
"We are proud to have Hungarian investors participating in the manufacturing, logistics, construction industry and reconstruction projects implemented by the Azerbaijani government. This cooperation is of strategic importance not only for Hungary but for the whole of Europe."
