Gas imports of Greece via TAP decrease slightly

In January-September 2024, Greece received 9.61 Terawatt-hours (TWh) of natural gas through the Trans-Adriatic Pipeline (TAP), which accounts for 19.8% of the total gas supply to the country during this period, Report informs, citing DESFA, the operator of Greece's gas transportation system.
"Through the Nea Mesimvria entry point, 9.61 TWh of gas was supplied to the country via TAP, which is 0.52% lower compared to the same period in 2023," the operator said.
In total, Greece imported 48.51 TWh of natural gas during the specified period, which is 7.9% lower than the figure for January-September of last year2023.
The supply of Azerbaijani gas to Europe via the Trans-Adriatic Pipeline from the Shah Deniz gas condensate field began at the end of 2020. Currently, the pipeline's capacity is 12 billion cubic meters of gas per year.
The total length of TAP is 878 km, of which 550 km pass through the northern part of Greece, 215 km through Albania, 105 km under the Adriatic Sea, and 8 km through Italy.
