Azerbaijan is, and remains, an important and reliable energy supplier for the EU, an EU source told Report.
The European Commission looks forward to the upcoming Southern Gas Corridor (SGC) and Green Energy Advisory Council ministerial meetings to be held in Baku in April and to further collaboration to strengthen the EU’s security of supply in line with our REPowerEU objectives.
The first meeting of the Working Group established between the European Commission and Slovakia on the gas supply problem facing Slovakia was recently held in Brussels. The meeting was attended by the Head of Energy Policy in the Directorate-General for Energy of the European Commission Cristina Lobillo Borrero, and Slovakia's Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Economy Denisa Sakova. Azerbaijan was represented by a delegation led by Deputy Minister of Energy Orkhan Zeynalov at the meeting. The EU source told Report that this was a meeting as part of regular contacts with energy partners.
"A broad number of topics were discussed, including COP29 follow-up, development of regional Green Energy Corridors, continued and potential additional energy supply to Europe and preparation for upcoming Southern Gas Corridor and Green Energy Advisory Council in April," reads the statement.
"We continue to implement the Strategic Partnership Agreement by identifying and facilitating discussions on key gas infrastructure projects necessary to double the capacity of the Southern Gas Corridor. At the same time, discussions are also focusing on the development of new regional Green Energy Corridors ensuring the energy transition with renewable, clean, energy at its core, in line with our REPowerEU objectives," the source said.
