EU fills underground storage facilities to record levels in August

Injection of gas into European underground storage facilities in August turned out to be almost a third lower than last year and became one of the lowest in recent years as evidenced by the data of Gas Infrastructure Europe (GIE).

Report informs citing TASS that the total accumulated gas reserves in the EU by the end of the month reached a historical maximum for August - about 93%. At the same time, LNG receipts from terminals into the gas transmission system of Europe fell by 11% last month compared to July due to storage occupancy and low prices.

As of August 31, gas reserves in Europe's storage facilities rose to 92.81% - 11.97 percentage points higher than the average for this date over the past five years. European countries filled their underground storage facilities with gas to the target 90% by the heating season in mid-August. Earlier, the European Commission expected to achieve such indicators only by November.
