EIA: Iran may become natural gas importer

Iran may become a natural gas importer from 2025, said US Energy Information Administration (EIA), Report informs, citing TRT Haber.
The document says the Islamic Republic consumes too much "blue fuel" and that US sanctions against it limit foreign investment in gas production, therefore Iran could face gas shortages in a few years.
Iran currently ranks second in the world with 34 billion cubic meters of gas reserves, while Russia leads with 37 billion cubic meters.
The EIA's forecast almost coincides with the forecast of Iran's Supreme Energy Council. If the necessary investments ($ 89 billion) are not made and waste is not prevented, the balance between natural gas production and consumption in the country will be upset from 2025.
