Czech Republic receives first batch of LNG from US

The first batch of liquefied natural gas (LNG) for the Czech Republic was delivered by sea to the LNG terminal in the Netherlands, Report informs referring to iROZHLAS.

The ship arrived from the US in the Dutch port of Eemshaven on September 19. Only eight ships with a cargo of 100 million cubic meters of gas will arrive there before the end of the year.

Liquefied gas from the floating terminal will provide the Czech Republic with up to a third of its annual consumption, significantly reducing the state’s dependence on gas from Russia.

The Czech Republic has leased 3 billion cubic meters from the terminal, so a total of 30 tankers will be needed.

The Czech energy company CEZ buys each gas supply at spot prices, that is, for the immediate supply of raw materials. They charge a different amount for each delivery. The rent of the terminal itself will cost more than tens of millions of euros per year, the exact price is not known.

Gas consumption in the Czech Republic last year exceeded 9 billion cubic meters.
