The construction of an international airport in the village of Gorchu in the Lachin district, which will serve 200 passengers per hour, is nearing completion, Tofig Islamov, the acting executive director of the Restoration, Construction and Management Service in Azerbaijan’s Lachin district, told a panel discussion held within the framework of the Caspian Construction Week, Report informs.
Islamov stated that the airport will facilitate travel to the regions: "The new airport will also allow for extensive use of tourism potential. The restoration of the liberated territories is a symbol of the return of life to these lands, and based on the Azerbaijani President's instructions, we will continue to carry out construction work accordingly in our turn."
The foundation of Lachin International Airport was laid in 2021. The runway will be 3,000 meters long and 60 meters wide. The terminal building, designed according to international standards, has an area of 5,000 square meters.
The airport is located 30 kilometers from Lachin city, 70 kilometers from Shusha, and 60 kilometers from Kalbajar.
