China expects to actively develop cooperation with Azerbaijan in renewable energy, Ambassador of China to Baku Lu Mei said at a press conference on April 28, Report informs.
According to the diplomat, cooperation in the field of clean energy occupies an important place in the pragmatic relations between China and Azerbaijan. "China hopes to actively develop cooperation with Azerbaijan in the field of renewables, promote energy transformation and sustainable socio-economic development of the two countries, as well as jointly create a global partnership in the field of clean energy," Lu Mei noted.
She emphasized that the concepts of green development of the two countries largely coincide, and the complementary advantages in the field of green energy create favorable conditions for expanding cooperation.
The diplomat reminded that the 230 MW Gobustan solar power plant, which was commissioned in October 2023 and is the largest project of its kind in Central Asia and the South Caucasus, has become a benchmark for Chinese-Azerbaijani cooperation in the field of green energy.
According to her, Chinese companies are also implementing a 240 MW wind power project in Azerbaijan and have reached an agreement on the construction of a 160 MW solar power plant in Fuzuli.
"During President Ilham Aliyev's visit to China, the Azerbaijani Ministry of Energy signed a number of documents on cooperation with Chinese companies. In particular, China is investing in the construction of a 100 MW solar power plant in Gobustan and plans to develop cooperation with Azerbaijan in the field of energy storage, energy system planning and offshore wind energy," Lu Mei said.
She also noted the growing popularity of clean energy vehicles in Azerbaijan.
"NIO vehicles became the only VIP transport at the COP29 conference organized by the Azerbaijani side. BYD signed an agreement to supply 100 chargers and 160 electric buses to Azerbaijan, and is also investing in the creation of an electric bus production line in the country," the ambassador added.
