Bulgaria to buy 440 mcm natural gas from Azerbaijan by Dec.31

In July-December 2022, Bulgaria will receive approximately 440 million cubic meters of natural gas from Azerbaijan, Azerbaijan's Ambassador to Bulgaria Huseyn Huseynov said, Report informs via the Star newspaper of Turkiye.

The ambassador reminded that an agreement was signed for the annual supply of 1 billion cubic meters of natural gas from Azerbaijan to Bulgaria. Since December 31, 2020, Azerbaijani natural gas was delivered to Bulgaria via an alternative route via Nea Mesemvria, Greece.

The terms of the contract for the supply of natural gas from Azerbaijan envisage the delivery of gas from the Greek city of Komotini to the Bulgarian city of Stara Zagora. Due to the delays in the construction of the pipeline, Bulgargaz negotiated with the supplier company in 2020. As a result, a compromise solution was reached for temporary supply on an alternative route. Immediately after the commissioning of the IGB gas pipeline, Bulgaria will start buying gas from Azerbaijan through the Komotini outlet, from where the full volume of gas will be delivered at the agreed price.

As a result of the latest negotiations between the two countries, approximately 2.6 million cubic meters of oil per day were exported to Bulgaria from July 1, 2022.

In order to provide Bulgaria with additional gas volumes, Bulgargaz must agree with the supplier company from Azerbaijan on certain technical and commercial aspects.
