A strategic development program has been developed to determine the directions of the development of Azerenerji OJSC for the next 10 years. Report informs citing the power company.

The program covers a number of sectors, assessing the current trends in the global and regional power industry, the forecast for demand in electricity in Azerbaijan and generation possibilities, current and future plans for the power system.

These are the transition to a liberal market model, the development of generating capacities and power grids, the improvement of operating activities, digitization, participation in existing and new export markets, and expansion outside the country.

Currently, on the agenda in Azerbaijan is the transition to a liberal market model in the electricity sector. In this regard, the experience of Turkey is being studied.

The statement says that Azerenerji intends to expand cooperation with Turkey for exchange of experience.

“We intend to send Azerenerji employees to Turkey as part of practical programs both to apply a liberal market model and to study the activities of Turkish companies in the electricity sector as a whole. We believe it will be beneficial to establish close cooperation with our colleagues in Turkey, especially TEIAŞ (Turkish Electricity Transmission Corporation)."

Currently, a new bill is being developed containing proposals for a phased transition to a liberal market model in the electricity sector.
