Azerbaijan’s profit from polyethylene exports more than double

In January-November 2021, according to customs declarations, Azerbaijan exported 128,850 tons of polyethylene in primary forms worth $160.1 million, respectively, up 29.8% and 2.4-fold from the previous year, Report informs, citing the State Customs Committee.

Over the past 11 months, the share of polyethylene in exports in the non-oil sector was 6.8%. Over the reporting period, the share of polyethylene in primary forms in the country's total exports totaled 0.8%.

Polyethylene and polypropylene are produced in Azerbaijan at the SOCAR polymer plant. The SOCAR Polymer project includes the polypropylene plant with an annual production capacity of 184,000 tons and the high-density polyethylene plant with an annual production of 120,000 tons. The polypropylene plant was inaugurated on July 18, 2018, by Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev and Italian President Sergio Mattarella. The export of polypropylene started on October 5, 2018.
