Azerbaijan's electricity exports soar by 41% while imports dwindle

In January 2021, Azerbaijan’s electricity exports amounted to 247.2 million kWh, having increased by 72.1 million kWh (41.2%) compared to January 2021, Report informs, citing the Azerbaijani Energy Ministry.

According to the ministry, meanwhile, electricity imports amounted to 10.7 million kWh, a drop of 0.3 million kWh (2.7%) from January 2021.

Total electricity production in Azerbaijan in January 2022 amounted to over 2.556 billion kWh, an increase of 188.2 million kWh or 7.9% from the first month of last year.

In January 2022, compared to January 2021, electricity generation increased by 190.3 million kWh to 2.45 billion kWh at Thermal Power Plants (TPP), by 3.4 million kWh to 81,6 million kWh at Hydroelectric Power Stations (HPP). Production at other sources (Wind Power Plants, Solar Power Plants and Solid Waste Incineration Plants) decreased by 5.5 million kWh to 24.7 million kWh.

According to the ministry, 6.7 million kWh of electricity was generated at wind farms, 3.3 million kWh at solar power plants, and 14.7 million kWh at the Solid Waste Incineration Plants.

In January 2022, Azerenergy OJSC produced over 2.333 billion kWh (2.256 billion kWh at TPPs, 77.3 million kWh at HPPs), the State Energy Service of Nakhchivan AR generated 29.17 million kWh (23.27 million kWh at TPPs, 2.86 million kWh at HPPs, 3.04 million kWh at Solar Power Plants), Azerishig OJSC generated 3.82 million kWh at wind farms, and independent power plants accounted for 190.1 million kWh of electricity.
