Azerbaijan reduces polyethylene exports by over 16% this year

According to customs declarations, Azerbaijan exported 75,815 tons of polyethylene in primary forms worth $101,622,100 in January-August 2022, 16.3% and 3.2% less than in the same period of 2021, Report informs, citing the State Customs Committee.

In January–August 2022, the share of polyethylene in non-oil sector exports was 5.39%, in the country's total exports - 0.39%.

In January-August of this year, Azerbaijan conducted trade transactions with foreign countries worth $35.113 billion.

The export operations accounted for $26.245 billion, and imports for $ 8.868 billion.

Polyethylene and polypropylene are produced in Azerbaijan at the SOCAR Polymer plant. The SOCAR Polymer project includes a polypropylene plant with an annual production capacity of 184,000 tons and a high-density polyethylene plant with a yearly production of 120,000 tons. The polypropylene plant was inaugurated on July 18, 2018, with the participation of Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev and Italian President Sergio Mattarella. The export of polypropylene began on October 5 of the same year.
