The operational leader of the EBRD's Green Economy and Climate Action Department and the representatives of the Tetra Tech company involved as the project executor discussed modeling the ways to reduce emissions of greenhouse gases in Azerbaijan until 2050, and a presentation was made on PLEXOS and TIMES models, which will support the policy of decarbonization of the electric power sector, Report informs, citing Azerbaijan Energy Ministry.
The discussions were held at the meeting with the representatives of Tetra Tech International Consulting Company, which was on a visit to Azerbaijan in order to discuss the Low-Carbon Solutions in the Electric Power Sector of Azerbaijan Technical Assistance Project within the Memorandum of Understanding between the Ministry of Energy and the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) on technical support related to the development of the electric power sector of the Republic of Azerbaijan.
Also, the tasks to be implemented on the project were reviewed and important strategic elements of the project were discussed.
Representatives from the Ministries of Energy, Economy, Ecology and Natural Resources, Azerenergy OJSC and Energy Regulatory Agency attended the meeting.
It should be noted that the Terms of References of the project includes calculation of existing models, modeling of ways to reduce greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions in Azerbaijan until 2050, drafting of a road map with recommendations on relevant policies and technologies for the decarbonization of the energy sector in Azerbaijan, as well as capacity building and involvement of stakeholders in this area.
