BHOS student who earned 700 points: “BHOS made engineering profession attractive to girls” INTERVIEW

Baku. 26 September. REPORT.AZ/ Sona Mehdizada who earned 700 points at the entrance exams this year has given an interview to chief of the Public Relations Department of the Baku Higher Oil School.

Report presents the interview to readers:

– Sona, please tell us a bit about yourself.

– I was born in Baku on November 26, 2000. I started school in 2007 and received my primary education at the school №56. Since 2011, I studied at the Technical and Humanitarian Lyceum №147. This year, I graduated with a gold medal from the secondary school №58. In 2007-2014, I attended piano classes at the musical school №13 named after SayidRustamov.

– Who made the most significant contribution to your success at the entrance exams?

– Ultimately, it is my family. They have always provided me with necessary support and assistance. I want to thank my schoolteachers, too. I am also grateful to my tutors who were teaching me last two years. So, everyone has contributed to my success.

– Why did you select the first group of specialties?

– When I was in the upper school, I became more interested in technical disciplines. Most of all, I liked math, physics and chemistry.

– What do you like doing in your leisure time?

– In my leisure time, I play piano, read books or go in for sports. I also like walking and being outdoors.

– Why did you decide to study at BHOS rather than elsewhere?

– Since 9th grade, I was gathering information about national universities and seeking advice from parents and friends. I decided to study at BHOS during the entrance exams. I believe that it is the best higher educational institution for those young people who choose engineering profession.

– What profession do you want to obtain at BHOS?

– I will study Process Automation Engineering.

– Was it your own choice? Or did you seek advices from your parents and others?

– It was my own choice. As for my parents, they have always supported me in making choices and decisions.

– Is it difficult for a woman to be an engineer?

– Think that gender equality shall be achieved in every profession at every workplace. The number of women in engineering is growing, and the Baku Higher Oil School has greatly contributed to this change by raising girls’ interest in this profession.

– What makes you different from others?

– I am perfectionist. I must do everything perfectly; otherwise, it is better not to do it at all. Sure, nothing is hundred percent ideal and people do make mistakes. However, it is important to learn lessons from them not to make the same mistakes again.

– What profession has the most promising future, in your view?

– In my opinion, all computer-related sciences including information technologies and process automation have the most fascinating perspectives.

– Where would you like to work and at what position?

– To be honest, I do not like to think about the future. Of course, I would agree with the old saying, “Well-planned is half done”. But nobody can foresee or predict the future.

– Does success entirely depend on a person? Or is it just a result of sheer luck?

– First of all, you need to set a goal. Then you have to find a correct path and work hard to achieve your goal. Luck is also important, but it cannot be the most crucial factor of the success.

– What would you advise to prospective students?

– They need to choose their future profession before the entrance exams, not after them. When you make the decision, try hard to make it happen. At the same time, find time for recreation. Do not isolate yourself from the rest of the world and do not be fully absorbed by the preparations to the exams.
