Azerbaijan will host the 29th session of the Conference of the Parties to the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change - COP29 next year, and will be able to continue discussions on the urgent issues facing humanity that began at COP28, said representative of Fiji, Amenatave Yauvoli, according to Report’s correspondent from Dubai.
“Azerbaijan became the next destination for the conference among the group of Eastern European countries, and I am very happy about that. I heard that it is a very beautiful country. I am sure that discussions on important issues will continue at COP29. The initial goal remains to keep global warming at 1.5 degrees Celsius," he noted.
Yauvoli also hoped that COP29 would continue discussions on the issues of small developing island states such as Fiji.
“The priority issues at COP28 were reducing the production and consumption of fossil fuels, as well as finding a solution to this problem that is fair to all parties,” Yauvoli noted, adding that issues of financial support for countries that were not the source of the climate situation that arose, but were among the most affected.
