Ministry: Snow reserves down, water level in rivers expected to be below normal in 2023

The snow measurement, which was carried out by the specialists-hydrologists of the National Hydrometeorological Service of the Ministry of Ecology and Natural Resources and the Hydrometeorological Department of Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic to determine the snow-water reserves and forecast the water level in the rivers in April, May, and June (during the spring-summer peak period), has been completed, Report informs.

Asif Verdiyev, director of the Hydrology Center of the Service, said that during the snow measurements conducted on 36 routes in the mountainous areas of the Greater and Lesser Caucasus, after determining the height and weight of the snow cover on each route, the density and moisture content of the snow was determined.

According to the results of snow measurement, this year's snow reserve was less than normal compared to last year: “According to the complex analysis, including water content in the snow and expected hydrometeorological conditions during the spring period, the water content in the rivers is forecasted to be below normal during the spring-summer peak period (April-June) of this year.”
