The shrinking of the Caspian Sea negatively affects both the ecology and economy, as well as the political landscape of the countries in the region, Ilgar Valizada said during the 4th session of the Azerbaijan-Kazakhstan Expert Council.
"The Caspian region is becoming one of the key centers of Eurasian politics. Therefore, issues related to security in the Caspian region concern both Azerbaijan and Kazakhstan," he said, emphasizing the importance of building a security architecture.
Valizada pointed out that over the last 15 years, the Caspian Sea has shrunk by 20,000 square kilometers.
He stressed the importance of strengthening cooperation between Kazakhstan and Azerbaijan in finding solutions to preserve the Caspian Sea.
"Cooperation in various areas, including economy and policy, helps us better understand what is happening in the region," he concluded.
