In 2024, Azerbaijan reduced harmful emissions in the atmosphere by 2,200 tons (0.2%), reaching a total of 963,000 tons, compared to the previous year, from both stationary sources and vehicles.
Report informs, citing the State Statistics Committee, that of all emissions, 62.1% were carbon monoxide, 19.8% hydrocarbons, 14.2% nitrogen oxides, 0.1% sulfur dioxide, and the remaining portion was other pollutants.
"Vehicles contributed 88% of the total emissions, equating to 847,200 tons. While emissions from vehicles increased by 3.2%, emissions from stationary sources saw a 19.8% decrease. In industrial centers, harmful emissions from stationary sources fell by 14,400 tons in Baku, 300 tons in Sumgayit, and 200 tons in Mingachevir," the committee stated.
Last year, 74.4% of harmful substances from stationary sources were neutralized through purification systems:
"Thanks to advancements in technology and improvements in the efficiency of existing purification systems at industrial enterprises, 11,700 tons of harmful substances were prevented from entering the atmosphere throughout the year."
