Cross-border territories of Azerbaijan, Georgia may be included in UNESCO Heritage List

“Hirkan National Park was recently included in the UNESCO World Heritage List. We will jointly discuss with Georgia the issues of including our other specially protected cross-border territories in this list,” Vugar Karimov, Deputy Minister of Ecology and Natural Resources of Azerbaijan, told Report.
According to him, Azerbaijan has very close cooperation ties with Georgia in the field of protection of biological diversity and forests.
Karimov said that many improvements have been made regarding forest legislation in Georgia: “Compared to the legislation of Azerbaijan, it has more liberal and softer legislative possibilities regarding the use of forests. We want to study and apply them in our country.”
