Caspian region facing difficulties due to unresolved environmental problems, minister says

The Caspian region is currently facing a number of difficulties associated with the negative impact of the unresolved environmental problems, Azerbaijan's Minister of Ecology and Natural Resources Mukhtar Babayev told a session of the expert group that studies the reasons of changes in the Caspian Sea level and preparation of the respective adaptation measures.

According to Report, the minister noted that the Caspian Sea is a unique water basin with rich natural resources representing utmost importance for littoral states.

"Beside anthropogenic impacts, such as reduction of biological resources, pollution of the marine environment, the degradation of the marine ecosystem is also caused by natural factors - a long-term decline in sea level as a result of climate change," he said.
