84 criminal cases on environmental offenses initiated in Azerbaijan in 2024

Some 84 criminal cases related to environmental offenses have been initiated in Azerbaijan since the beginning of 2024, Deputy Prosecutor General of Azerbaijan Heydar Mammadov said, Report informs.

“This year, 1,310,340 manats ($770,788) in material damages have been paid in connection with environmental violations,” Mammadov said at the Scientific-Practical Conference held in Azerbaijan's Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic on August 16.

He talked about the consistent measures taken by the Azerbaijan Prosecutor’s Office to ensure ecological safety and environmental protection through legal means. Mammadov also introduced the concept of “Penalty Park - Nature’s Revenge,” adopted by the Prosecutor General’s Office for environmental protection and ecological restoration.
