A staggering 685 million people worldwide lack access not only to electricity but also to basic services essential for daily life, according to United Nations data, Mikael Melin, the head of people-centered programs at SEforALL, said during the Baku Climate Action Week, Report informs.
According to him, even more shocking is that over two billion people, nearly one in three, still lack access to clean cooking methods.
Melin said this problem leads to dire consequences, as the use of non-eco-friendly fuels for cooking negatively impacts the health of millions.
Children suffer the most from this issue, Melin emphasized.
He stressed the importance of demonstrating solutions to these climate problems to children, as they are particularly strongly affected.
Melin voiced confidence that when they see the results, they will become the main advocates for climate action.
