Today marks the birthday of Azerbaijan's National Hero, Major General Polad Hashimov.

According to Report, Hashimov would turn 50 today.

Polad Israil oglu Hashimov was born on January 2, 1975, in Vandam village of Gabala district, later moving with his family to Sumgayit. He received his secondary education in Sumgayit, first at School #28, then at School #34, and graduated from the Heydar Aliyev Higher Military School.

Major General Hashimov heroically died on July 14, 2020, while repelling an Armenian Armed Forces attack during intense battles in the Tovuz direction. His death was announced by Deputy Defense Minister Lieutenant General Karim Valiyev. On July 14, Major General Polad Hashimov's body was first taken to Vandam village where he was born, then to Sumgayit where he lived. The General was laid to rest on July 15 in the Second Alley of Honor next to Colonel Ilgar Mirzoyev.

Azerbaijan's President Ilham Aliyev called Major General Polad Hashimov's mother and expressed deep condolences to his family members.

On December 9, 2020, by presidential decree, Hashimov was posthumously awarded the title of National Hero of Azerbaijan.

Throughout his career, he received numerous awards including the "For Military Services" medal (2003), "For the Motherland" medal (2009), and the "For Service to the Fatherland" Orders of III and II degrees (2014 and 2016).

He served as Chief of Staff of the 1st Army Corps during the April 2016 battles and was later promoted to Major General in 2019. He was subsequently appointed Chief of Staff of the 3rd Army Corps of Azerbaijan's Armed Forces.

In 2020, a street in Gabala city was named after Polad Hashimov. A street in Baku also bears his name. His memory is also honored in Türkiye, where a park in Bursa's Osmangazi district was named after him.

Polad Hashimov is survived by two sons and a daughter.
