Today is the third anniversary of the liberation of the 132-kilometer section of the Azerbaijani-Iranian state border, which had been under the occupation of the Armenian Armed Forces for many years.
Report informs that the Aghband settlement in the Zangilan district was liberated on October 22, 2020.
Thus, with the liberation of the settlement, Azerbaijan took full control of the state border with the Islamic Republic of Iran.
The good news was conveyed to the people of Azerbaijan by the President, Supreme Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, Ilham Aliyev. The head of state congratulated the people of both countries on the liberation of the Aghband settlement and the full control of the Azerbaijan-Iran state border.
The Azerbaijani military, which liberated the Aghband settlement and the Aghband border post, reported this to Supreme Commander-in-Chief Ilham Aliyev.
On the same day, along with Aghband, Kollugishlag, Malatkeshin, Kand Zangilan, Genlik, Valigulubayli, Garadara, Chopadara, Tatar, Tiri, Amirkhanli, Gargulu, Bartaz, Dallakli villages of the Zangilan district, as well as Mollaveli, Yukhari Rafidinli, Ashagi Rafidinli of the Fuzuli district, and Sirik, Shikhlar, Mastalibeyli, Darzili villages of the Jabrayil district were cleared of the enemy.
Thus, on the instructions of the President, the State Border Service has created all the necessary security infrastructure in the liberated part of the Iranian-Azerbaijani border. The activity of border posts has been restored here.
Thus, after liberation from the occupation, in parallel with the demining of the area, infrastructure restoration works are being carried out in the settlement.
Currently, the construction of the Horadiz-Jabrayil-Zengilan-Aghband highway, which is highly important for Azerbaijan, is being continued. This highway passes through the territory of the liberated Fuzuli, Jabrayil, and Zangilan districts. The foundation of the road, with a total length of 123.8 km, was laid on April 26, 2021, during the visit of President Ilham Aliyev, First Lady Mehriban Aliyeva, and their daughters Leyla Aliyeva to Jabrayil and Zangilan districts.
Along with this, the construction of the Horadiz-Aghband railway line is also underway. The length of the Horadiz-Aghband railway line, laid by the President of the country in February 2021, is 110.4 km. Construction works are carried out in 3 stages. The first stage is 30 km, including Horadiz, Marjanli, and Mahmudlu stations. The second stage is 55 km, including Soltanli, Gumlaq, Hakari, and Minjivan stations, and the third stage is 25.4 km, starting from Minjivan and covering Bartaz and Aghband stations.
The Aghband settlement, a part of the Vejnali village of the Zangilan administrative district, was occupied by the Armenian Armed Forces in 1993. The settlement is located on the bank of the Araz River at the foot of Mount Aghband. Its name is taken from this mountain.
