The recent parliamentary elections in the Republic of Azerbaijan were an important milestone in the country's ongoing democratic progress, according to the head of the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) observer mission, Nuran Niyazaliev, who is also the Deputy Secretary-General of the SCO.
Report informs that, speaking at a press conference on Monday, Niyazaliev said the mission's observers did not identify any violations, obstacles to citizens, external interference, or pressure on members of the election commissions. "The elections met the requirements of the Constitution and the Electoral Code of the Republic of Azerbaijan, as well as the international obligations adopted by the country," he affirmed.
The SCO mission recognized the elections as transparent, credible, and democratic. Niyazaliev emphasized that the voting took place in a calm atmosphere in the presence of local, public, and international observers, as well as media representatives.>
Niyazaliev concluded by expressing deep gratitude to Azerbaijan's Central Election Commission, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and other organizations and institutions for their assistance and support in facilitating the work of the SCO observers. He congratulated Azerbaijan on electing a new parliament and wished the nation continued social and economic development.
