President: "Azerbaijan has entered a new era today"

"The V Congress of World Azerbaijanis in Shusha is of great historic significance. Today, Azerbaijan has entered a new era," President Ilham Aliyev said during his speech at the V Congress of World Azerbaijanis.

The president noted that Azerbaijan was like a country that had been under occupation for thirty years.

"It was very difficult for us. For me as the president, for you as citizens, for Azerbaijanis living abroad. We knew that this defeat had no real basis. Only the events that occurred in Azerbaijan in the early 1990s, the struggle for power, national treason, betrayal and other evil deeds created this situation. We knew we deserved this victory. My main task as the president was to strengthen our country and restore its territorial integrity."

"It was very difficult for you, too, because there are Armenian diaspora organizations in the countries where you live, and whether you want it or not, you communicate with them. I realize that this period was difficult for you," he added.
