Mufti of Igdir: 'I'm very saddened to see cemeteries destroyed by Armenians in Karabakh'

The Mufti of the Turkish region of Igdir, Zahit Demirel, told Report that he was deeply shocked to see the cemeteries in Karabakh destroyed by Armenians.

He emphasized that the reality on the ground was strikingly different from what they knew before: "While in Türkiye, we followed the progress of the war with great anxiety every day. But when you come here, you understand that no stories can convey all the pain. We saw with our own eyes the deserted villages, destroyed mosques, desecrated cemeteries, tombstones of martyrs... All this is a heartbreaking picture, testifying to the tragedy that unfolded on this land."

Zahit Demirel noted that respect for places of worship is a universal norm for all religions, but here he witnessed the exact opposite: "No religion justifies the desecration of sacred places. Even in non-Muslim cultures, there is deep respect for faith and spiritual values. We have to convey the bitter truth to the whole world. I believe that every Muslim should show this barbarity for what it is. As a person of faith, as a Muslim, I am shocked by what I saw in Karabakh."
