Lavrina: Azerbaijan has all conditions for peaceful co-existence of numerous nationalities and faiths

Azerbaijan has created favorable conditions for the peaceful coexistence and development of numerous nationalities and faiths, with the government actively supporting the principles of tolerance and respect for various religious traditions, according to Anastasia Lavrina, First Deputy Chairperson of the Russian Community of Azerbaijan.

"Russians in Azerbaijan have always been equal citizens of a multinational society. Not only are our rights guaranteed by the country's constitution, but we also have favorable living conditions, which we greatly appreciate. Unity is one of the most important characteristics of Azerbaijani society. The 44-day Patriotic War, which began in September 2020, brought us even closer together. Representatives of all ethnic groups, including Russians, volunteered to defend their homeland," Lavrina stated.

She emphasized that the sizeable Russian population in the country is evidence of the good conditions created for them in Azerbaijan: "We have the largest community in the South Caucasus region here, numbering around 120,000 people."

Lavrina noted that the Azerbaijani authorities carefully preserve the cultural, architectural, and religious heritage of various peoples, with the restoration of temples supported through state grants and funding.

The Russian community in Azerbaijan actively participates in the country's life. "Over the years, we have become even more involved in the ongoing processes and are ready to support the country's leadership in promoting a peaceful agenda in the region, strengthening relations with Russia, and developing the liberated territories," Lavrina added.

Furthermore, she pointed out that the Russian language remains important in business and diplomatic relations between Azerbaijan and Russia. "Azerbaijan is an active participant in international organizations where Russian is often used as a working language. This creates additional motivation for learning it," Lavrina concluded.
