211,800 hectares of mined areas are heavily contaminated, the Chairman of the Azerbaijan Campaign Against Landmines Public Union, Hafiz Safikhanov, said at the presentation of a research-based report aimed at solving the problem of landmines and unexploded ordnance in Azerbaijan, Report informs.
According to him, 1,166,702 hectares of land in Azerbaijan are contaminated by mines: "This applies only to the liberated regions. According to the research, 211,800 hectares of mined areas have a high level of contamination. In other areas, there is a medium and low level of mine contamination."
