Chairman of Bar Association: “Opinions voiced about punishment of several lawyers are nothing but rumors”

Baku. 12 December. REPORT.AZ/ “Opinions voiced about punishment of several lawyers are groundless. They are nothing but rumors," Chairman of the Bar Association Anar Bagirov told journalists.

According to Report, Baghirov said that the Bar Association of Azerbaijan does not have the authority to terminate the activities of lawyers:

"The Association can only suspend the lawyer's activities. At the same time, it may file a lawsuit in court on termination of the lawyer's activities. The final decision is made by the court."

He added that this year the Bar Association of Azerbaijan has made a decision on termination of activities of four attorneys: "The decision on three of them is due to non-payment of membership fees. The activity of a lawyer who does not pay membership fee is terminated. A decision has been made on  person for gross violations of law and rules of conduct."
