The issuance of postal stamps dedicated to Western Azerbaijan provides an opportunity to share its history, architecture, and information about famous historical figures with the global community, chairman of the Western Azerbaijan Community, Aziz Alakbarli, said at the presentation of a stamp series reflecting the history of these lands.
According to him, postal stamps from Tsarist Russia dedicated to Iravan provided great assistance in their historical research. "Thanks to the stamps published during that period, we were able to confirm that Iravan was historically a Muslim city," Alakbarli said.
At the event, it was noted that the stamp themes were carefully selected. The series of 7 blocks reflects both the political history and the architecture and culture of Western Azerbaijan. The stamps feature the portrait of the last khan of the Iravan Khanate, Huseyngulu Khan Sardar, a coin from the time of Fath-Ali Shah Qajar, the Sardar Palace and Mosque, the Blue Mosque, and portraits of ashugs Ali and Alasgar, representatives of the Iravan ashug school.
A special place is given to the block featuring the painting "Capture of Iravan Fortress" by Russian artist Franz Roubaud from 1886, and "Blue Mosque in Iravan" created by French artist Frédéric Dubois de Montpéreux in 1833. Thus, historical reality through ancient artworks has found its reflection in new stamps.
The artistic part of the event concluded with a program dedicated to Iravan music.
The stamp series was issued on the initiative of the Western Azerbaijan Community, with support from the Ministry of Digital Development and Transport and Azerpost LLC.
