The international community currently remains indifferent to cases of mass human rights violations, stated Sabina Aliyeva, the Commissioner for Human Rights (Ombudsman) of Azerbaijan, during an event dedicated to the December 10 - International Human Rights Day, Report informs.
Aliyeva pointed out that Azerbaijan also suffers from such double standards. "The occupation of 20% of Azerbaijani territories by Armenia for nearly 30 years, the destruction of cities, villages, historical and cultural monuments in those areas, the extermination of many flora and fauna species, and the contamination of our lands with mines are examples of this," she said.
The Ombudsman noted that the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, which celebrates its 76th anniversary of adoption this year, has led to a positive change in states' attitudes towards the protection of human rights.
Aliyeva emphasized that significant measures have been taken this year to protect human rights, especially the right to live in a healthy environment.
During the event, the winners of the journalistic writing and children's drawing competitions on "Climate Change and Human Rights," were awarded by the Ombudsman of Azerbaijan.
Aybaniz Karimova from the Children's Home No. 3 in Khatai district, Baku won first place in the children's drawing competition.
