There are deficiencies in gender commissions created in municipalities, Farida Hajiyeva, consultant of the Main Department for Work with Municipalities of the Azerbaijani Ministry of Justice, said at a conference on "Strengthening the work of gender commissions established in municipalities.," Report informs.
According to Hajiyeva, gender commissions in some municipalities are formal in nature:
"Gender commissions have already been established in all municipalities. However, many of these commissions are formal in nature. As a local self-government body, the municipality should directly engage with the population. But this is not always the case."
Hajiyeva stated that meetings with at-risk families by municipalities and organizing awareness-raising activities would yield very positive results:
"Through our monitoring, we have witnessed the achievements of gender commissions in this direction. We are ready to support increasing the number of such activities."
