August 31 marks a significant moment in Azerbaijan as the nation observes the Day of Silence ahead of the snap parliamentary elections scheduled for September 1, Report informs.
This practice mandates a cessation of all campaign activities 24 hours before the polls open.
According to the Election Code of Azerbaijan, pre-election campaigning can be conducted by registered candidates, their authorized representatives, political parties with registered candidates, and blocs of political parties, along with their authorized representatives. Campaigning begins 23 days before the voting day and concludes 24 hours before voting starts.
The pre-election campaign period, which began on August 9, 2024, must come to a halt at 08:00 (GMT+4) on August 31.
Polling stations will open at 08:00 and remain open until 19:00 on September 1. In the parliamentary elections, 990 candidates will vie for 125 seats.
