Azerbaijan's landmine problem discussed at international symposium

The problem of existing landmines and unexploded ordnance in the liberated territories of Azerbaijan was discussed at the 20th International Symposium on Combating Mine Threats held in Cavtat, Croatia, the Azerbaijan National Agency for Mine Action (ANAMA), told Report.

It was noted that a number of state officials of Croatia, demining institutions of various countries, representatives of non-governmental and donor organizations specializing in this field, as well as representatives of manufacturing companies, participated in the international event.

Within the framework of the mentioned symposium, experiences on the solutions to technical and management problems related to the threat of landmines, the latest scientific-practical achievements, and combating landmines were exchanged, and equipment produced by various companies was demonstrated.

At the event, the members of the agency's delegation gave a presentation on the problem of landmines and unexploded ordnance in the liberated territories of Azerbaijan, the scale of massive pollution with explosive devices, the obstacles created by the current problem to reconstruction and restoration work, as well as the return of former internally displaced persons, and expressed the importance of international cooperation and support in this field.
