A Memorial Concert on the 30th anniversary of the Khojaly Genocide was held in the Nice, France with the support of Heydar Aliyev Foundation, State Committee on Work with Diaspora and with the organizational support of the Association of the Friends of Azerbaijan in France.
Report informs, citing the State Committee on Work with Diaspora, that Jerome Lambert, MP for the Charente region of France, President of the Association of the Friends of Azerbaijan, Arda Ulutas, Consulate General of Turkey in Marseille, public and political figures, representatives of the Azerbaijani Diaspora and Turkish associations attended the concert.
Jerome Lambert, President of the Association of the Friends of Azerbaijan, gave information about the Khojaly Genocide before the start of the concert. “Western Europe has little information about this tragedy, in general, about the Armenian-Azerbaijani conflict”-told Jerome Lambert.
French politician compared the Khojaly Genocide to the Oradour-sur-Glane massacre of 1944, that took the lives of 643 villagers and to the My Lai massacre of 1968 committed by the American troops and killed more than 500 people.
“Khojaly Genocide has also left irremovable trace in the history like these massacres. The perpetrators of this crime should be held accountable and condemned too. This is a bloody memory and should not be forgotten. Because peace comes soon after the truth and justice are established”- told Mr. Lambert.
Pierre Thilloy, participant of the Memorial Concert spoke about fraternal ties with Azerbaijan and his work “Khojaly 613”. The composer did not hide his admiration for Azerbaijani music and culture.
The Khojaly Genocide, in general, this black period of the Azerbaijani history, did not pass him by. That’s why he tried to share the grief of his friends and honor the victims of the genocide with his work.
Fikrat Amirov’s, Gara Garayev’s, Granado’s and Barber’s copositions, as well as “Khojaly 613" composed by French composer Pierre Thilloy for solo violin, clarinet and string quartet were performed at the concert.
Information about the Khojaly Genocide and the concert program aroused great interest among the concert attendees.
Informative materials on the realities of the Khojaly Genocide, published with the support of the Heydar Aliyev Foundation and CDs of "Khojaly 613"were distributed among the attendees of concert.
“Khojaly 613” dedicated to the dear memory of the victims of the Khojaly Genocide received its world première in Saint Roch’s church of Paris on 21 February 2022.
