A meeting was held in Hamburg, Germany within the framework of the 100th anniversary of the birth of Heydar Aliyev, founder of the modern Azerbaijan, an outstanding politician and statesman.
Report informs, citing the State Committee on Work with Diaspora, that Ali Rza Shimsek and Gungor Yilmaz, deputies of Hamburg City parliament, Ulvi Naghiyev, an employee of the Azerbaijani Embassy in Germany, media representatives, members of Azerbaijani, Turkish, South Azerbaijani and other communities attended the meeting.
The National Anthem of Azerbaijan was played and a minute's silence was observed to honour the memory of those who died for the territorial integrity of Azerbaijan. A documentary dedicated to the national leader Heydar Aliyev "The Winners Live Forever" was demonstrated.
Greeting the participants of the event, Fuad Muradov, the chairman of the State Committee on Work with Diaspora, emphasized Heydar Aliyev’s exceptional role in diaspora-building, President Ilham Aliyev’s care towards compatriots, activity of the Committee, establishment of 20 Azerbaijani Houses, 15 Coordination Councils, “Nizami” and “Garabagh” weekend schools, and Fourth Summer Camp of Diaspora Youth to be held in Nakhchivan.
He drew attention to the friendship of Azerbaijani and Turkish communities and voiced his recommendations in this direction.
Khalil Khalilov, chairman of German-Azerbaijan Friendship Bridge, Rasim Taghiyev, head of the control and inspection commission of the same organization and others delivered speeches at the event. They reported on the current situation of the Azerbaijani diaspora in Hamburg and the work done so far.
The community members have put forward an initiative of opening Azerbaijani House in Hamburg. It was emphasized that a great number of Azerbaijanis are living here.
The meeting ended with an exchange of ideas and sounding of proposals.
