Azerbaijani resident of New Zealand: Mosques attacked by extremist

No Azerbaijani suffered during the shooting at the mosques in Christchurch, member of Azerbaijani Diaspora in New Zealand Tofiq Mammadli told Report.

"The attacker has supposedly killed 70 with only 40 deaths confirmed so far. The shooter is a member of a terrorist group, and he arrived from Australia to New Zealand for this very purpose," Mammadov said.

He noted that, by some information, the death toll in the mosque attack may increse

Our compatriot said the situation in the country is quite strained. He pointed that all mosques and schools were closed over security fears, since the attack was committed by an obvious extremist.

"The police believe that nearly 10 people are linked to the attack but only four have been arrested so far," the Azerbaijani Diaspora activist said.

"It was a vehement attack. Today the New Zealand's Prime Minister is meeting representatives of the power structures and law enforcement bodies to clarify the situation," Mammadli noted adding that the country residents fear the repetition of the attack.
