Azerbaijani community in Moldova appeals to international community over Armenian barbarism

The Azerbaijani community in Moldova strongly condemned acts of vandalism, such as the torture of Azerbaijani soldiers captured by Armenia and the burning of the Azerbaijani flag at the opening ceremony of the European weightlifting championship held in Yerevan, Report informs, citing the State Committee on Work with Diaspora.

The statement addressed to the international organizations on the behalf of Belgium Azerbaijanis Federation, clarifies the reason of the capture of the Azerbaijani soldiers Babirov Agshin, born in 2004, and Akhundov Huseyn, born in 2003, and draws attention to the fact that the soldiers of the Azerbaijani army were tortured and treated inhumanely. Attention was drawn to the fact that just a day after the torture of the Azerbaijani soldier, another act of vandalism - the burning of the Azerbaijani flag was committed in Armenia .

The statement emphasized that unacceptable behavior against the Azerbaijani flag was demonstrated by an employee of the Public Television of Armenia during the live broadcast of the prestigious event attended by the Prime Minister of Armenia, and such an atmosphere of hatred made it impossible for Azerbaijani athletes to participate in the competition in terms of their security.

Reiterating that Armenia has not fulfilled its obligations under important international acts, including the Geneva Convention, Conventions against Torture and Other Cruel, Inhuman or Degrading Treatment or Punishment, the Congress of Azerbaijanis of Moldova requests the relevant international organizations to investigate both acts of violence, to provide a proper legal assessment, demanding the immediate and unconditional release of Azerbaijani servicemen, the imposition of sanctions against Armenia by the European Weightlifting Federation.

Moldovan Azerbaijanis called on the international sports community to raise their voice of protest and strongly condemn this action, which is a gross violation of the accepted rules of conduct for sports competitions.
