"We are grateful to the leadership of Azerbaijan for supporting and promoting the Russian language and culture in the republic," Russian President Vladimir Putin said at a joint press conference with Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev in Moscow on February 22.
He reminded that there are over 300 Russian-language schools in Azerbaijan and Russian-language faculties in most universities.
"During the talks, Mr.President said that there are not 300, but 340 schools - we are not fast enough to track it and count, so, we are grateful, and we attach great importance to this. I want to mention that over 11,000 Azerbaijani students currently receive education in Russia; of them, more than a thousand are funded from the federal budget," Putin said.
